The Program

Protect Child Nutrition

‘Protect Child Nutrition’ program, an island-wide project to ease the malnutrition of children of Sri Lanka as a result of the current economic conditions.

The project is launched with the key objective of providing a much-needed daily meal to thousands of schoolchildren across the country over a period of 3 years.

The ‘Protect Child Nutrition’ program is spearheaded by Lions Clubs International MD 306 Sri Lanka and brings together the strength of over 18,000 Lions serving in all corners of Sri Lanka.

We are reaching out to Lions, fellow Sri Lankans and friends of Sri Lanka to join hands to raise much-needed funds to carry out this program.

The program is sanctioned by the Ministry of Education which allows the Lions of Sri Lanka provide meals to children in low income schools across the country.

Protect Child Nutrition of Lions MD306 is a Designated Grant program of the Lions Clubs International Foundation.

How it works

18,000 + Lions in Sri Lanka are working together to raise funds for the Protect Child Nutrition program. The annual budget is estimated at US$400,000 subject to currency fluctuations. Phase One of the program launched in March 2023 started off with approximately 3000 children in over 25 school being selected for the Program.

The Lions are reaching out to all networks both in Sri Lanka and overseas to raise sufficient funds to meet the goal of feeding 10,000 children.

Schools that are eligible for the progam are selected by the Lions and a Lions Club (s) is allocated the duty of coordinating the meal program with the school, local authorities and the central organizing team.

The Lions monitor the meal program ensuring that the meals are provided as per the guidelines of the Ministry of Education. This includes weekly visits to the school and ensuring records are maintained.

Monthly records are checked, verified and once all necessary approvals are obtained Lions MD 306 will make a direct payment to the food supplier.
